Le marathon le plus rapide, avec 4 records du monde en 1998 Ronaldo da Costa en 2h06'05", en 2003 Paul Tergat en 2h04'55" puis 2 fois pour Haile Gebrselassie en 2h04'26" et en 2h03'59" aura lieu le 25 septembre avec un départ à 9h.

Pour cette édition 2011, le marathon de Berlin garde son statut de marathon le plus rapide, avec un nouveau record du monde pour Patrick Makau en 2h03'38".
